Camp Descriptions
Every camper receives the same basic experience at every camp offered throughout
the summer. That experience is based on the assumption that every soccer player
needs to focus on both technical and tactical training. The curriculum is structured
to begin where each camper’s skill ends and “take” the camper
to the highest level possible during the camper’s week with our expert
staff. In addition, specialty weeks are offered for campers that demonstrate
a higher, more advanced skill level.
Paul Barron Week is
a week of all-round soccer training highlighted by Paul Barron, England International
and outstanding goalkeeper coach for Newcastle of the English Premiership.
Newcastle, currently is still "in the hunt" for The FA Cup – soccer’s equivalent to football’s
(the other football) Super Bowl or baseball’s World Series. Paul has
been training goalkeepers (most notably the 2006 U.S. World Cup keepers Kasey
Keller and Marcus Hahnemann) at Northwest Soccer Camp for over 25 years.
Albeit the opening week of our 37th year features Paul Barron, together with the Slammers – the
camp offers training at all positions for all skill levels. Come join us for a fabulous week
of soccer.
Edu, from Brazil - and Pele's
best friend – has had this week named after him since he is the “pied
piper” of Northwest Soccer Camp. Edu’s connection with us began when he and Paul Mendes (former University of Washington player-Seattle Sounder ), also from Brazil, (and Northwest Soccer staff from the beginning) met at Green lake in Seattle 11 years ago while Edu was conducting a day camp. The two went out to lunch and spent some time talking during which time Paul informed Edu about the Northwest Soccer Camp. He told him about the great staff and impressive number of youth players that attend every summer. One week later Edu stopped by Camp Casey for a visit and joined in the fun. The following year he came back and volunteered to train players again, and has been doing so ever since. His amazing skills, love for the game, infectious smile, and friendly personality have made Edu a hit with everyone.
Edu appeared on the Brazilian soccer scene at age 15, when he signed his first professional contract with Santos F C, Pele's club. One year later, in 1966 he was named to the Brazilian national team and traveled to England as the youngest player ever to go to a world cup. Four years later, Edu was a member of Brazil's 1970 world cup championship squad in Mexico. Edu's third and final world cup appearance with Brazil was in 1974 in Germany, where Brazil finished fourth in the tournament.
Edu was a teammate of the great Pele with Santos F C for thirteen years. Together they were one of the most feared duos in the game, and scored over 1500 goals combined. Many of the goals that Pele scored over the years were assisted by Edu, and vice versa.
Edu has been devoted to the game all his life and continues to play in celebrity and charity games all over the world. He also conducts a youth soccer academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His love and devotion to the game make him a big hit with youth players everywhere. This is the most popular week of the summer
because Edu is still a magician with the ball and a master with kids!
Elite Week – in its
fourteenth year, offers the elite player – as well as the soon-to-be-elite
player - a week of intense, no-nonsense soccer designed to prepare players
for select play as well as high school and college level performance. These sessions
are for serious soccer players compliented by an exceptional coaching staff featuring college and professional coaching staff from around the world.
Family Week is our only week where parents can join their kids in their camp experience by signing up for the adult session. While campers are training in their sessions, (Beeg Keeds) can do the same in their group of soccer loving moms and dads. Off
the field, they share the rest of the camp activities together.
